The temperature gauge on your dashboard allows you to see the engine temperature at a glance. An engine generates large amounts of heat due to combustion and the constant movement of countless engine parts. The cooling system keeps this temperature under control by absorbing the heat and transporting it to the radiator for removal via heat exchange.

It’s normal for the temperature to temporarily rise when you accelerate, tow something, or drive uphill. When this happens, the cooling system speeds up in response, and the temperature will drop again. If the temperature remains high and continues to climb, there’s a problem with the cooling system. We’ll repair the cooling system, and the engine temperature will return to normal.

Colored Exhaust Smoke

The exhaust system converts dangerous combustion byproducts into less harmful ones before being forced out through the tailpipe. Normal exhaust smoke is thin and white, and often difficult to see. If your exhaust starts to produce black, blue, or thick white smoke, this means there’s a problem in the engine that needs to be fixed ASAP.

Blue exhaust smoke is caused by oil dripping into the engine cylinders due to a worn or damaged seal. Thick white smoke is produced when coolant enters the exhaust system, which is usually due to a cracked head gasket.
